Ice Fishing Qualifier to be Held On Prairie Lake
Prairie Lake in Barron County will host one of the qualifying tournaments of a new ice fishing circuit this season with competition in central and northern Wisconsin. Wisconsin Team Circuit, which has organized bass tournaments for the past 13 years, is dipping its toe in the cold waters with its newly announced Wisconsin Ice Fishing League.
During each of the four planned team tournaments, anglers will compete for money and points toward entry in the first-ever Wisconsin Pan Fish Championships scheduled for March 4 & 5 in the Minocqua area. The first day of the championship tournament will be held on Big Arbor Vitae Lake and the second day will be on Lake Minocqua (Stack's Bay). If they don't have 45 teams qualifying for the Championships, there will be a structured payout (see WIFL web site for complete explanation).
Each qualifying tournament has a maximum field of 60 two-person teams with an entry fee of $100 per team. Eligible fish species are sunfish, bluegill, pumpkinseed, perch and crappie. The field for the championship tournament will consist of the top 45 teams in points at the end of the qualifying tournaments. If all four qualifying tournaments fill, then the championship payout will be $3,000 for first, $2,000 for second and $1,000 for third.
The four qualifying tournaments and their dates are: Jan. 8 – Lower Holcombe Flowage in Rusk County, Jan. 22 – Big Round Lake in Polk County, Feb. 5 – Prairie Lake in Barron County and Feb. 19 – Long Lake-Sarona in Washburn County.
