Find Seasonal Fun in Burnett CountY
Several fishing contests, a mid-winter party and hundreds of miles of snowmobile and cross-country ski trails in Burnett County all add up to lots of seasonal fun for the entire family. More than a few visitors mix it up – combining their love of snowmobiling with ice fishing, for example. Or, hitting the cross-country ski trails in the morning and then doing some serious shopping in the afternoon. Communities hold winter festivals and events, such as Mid-Winter Sports Day in Grantsburg, typically held the third Saturday in February. Snowmobilers can enjoy fun and exciting recreation on more than 300 miles of groomed and signed trails in the county. Terrain is varied, from forests to farmlands, lakes and streams. The county and Phantom Trail Riders Snowmobile Club work diligently to groom the trails to top perfection. Riders are treated to a smooth ride and exquisite winter scenery. Call (800) 788-3164. With some 500 lakes located within the county, it might be difficult to choose one. But knowledgeable and friendly staff at local sporting and bait shops can fill you in on some good fishing spots (but they're fishermen and guides too so don't expect them to give up their secret spots!). Nonetheless, you'll get plenty of good recommendations. Good lake prospects are Big and Little Yellow lakes, Big Clam, Big Sand, Clam Lake, Birch Island Lake, Devils Lake and McKenzie Lake. Nearly every lake of any size holds good populations of northern pike, panfish and bass with most having walleye populations. There are several excellent cross-country ski trails in Burnett County for you to discover or rediscover this winter. In total they offer more than 75 miles of scenic skiing – classical and skating — and will accommodate all skill levels.
Webb Lake Ski Trail
Experience the scenic beauty of the Webb Lake area by skiing through the aspen, oak, and pine wooded trails. Maintained by the Webb Lake Area Men's Club, three trails totaling 8.7km provide for a wonderful skiing experience. Loop 1 takes you along Jones Creek. Two parking areas and a shelter are available. Forts Folle Avoine Ski Trail
Enjoy skiing over 5km of trails along the historic Yellow River. The trails wind through oak and pine forest and take you to historic cultural sites. A fur trading post, woodland Indian village, the Karlsborg School, the Palmer House, and the visitors center are the sights you will see. The ski trails are groomed for classical skiing and are generally for the beginner and intermediate level skier.
