Welcome to Sawyer County, WI!

Vintage Sleds Unite for Fun, Charity
Riders of vintage and classic sleds – Arctic Cat Panther, Ski-Doo TNT, John Deere Spitfire and the like – are invited to meet up with members of the Northwest Relic Riders Vintage Snowmobile Club and other clubs to explore the hundreds of miles of well-groomed and marked trails in Sawyer County, and beyond!

With a membership of just over 100 riders, the Relic Riders host one major ride as well as assisting other clubs with their vintage rides during the season, said president Bruce Millin. The Relic Riders' 35-mile Casey Loop Enduro is held each December in neighboring Washburn County. They also sponsor a vintage and classic sled show at the Hayward 300 snocross races. But the featured rides are not the only time you will see these wonders of the 60's and 70's as the owners enjoy riding the old iron anytime. The clubs welcome non-members to join them at anytime, including for the featured rides. Among the vintage rides planned in Sawyer County this winter are the following:

Saturday, Jan. 29 – Big Boyz Toyz Vintage Ride, beginning at Winter Huskies' groomer shed, one block off Hwy. 70 (west of Winter). This ride draws about 100 sleds. Registration at 9 a.m. with munchies and coffee. They will start the ride at the Winter Huskies groomer shed at 11 a.m. for a 30-mile round trip with stops on the way. The ride ends about 5 p.m. at the groomer shed where there will a lunch, lots of door prizes and vintage show trophies – and more fun than the law allows, as they say. For more information contact Dale or Missy Beissel, (715) 266-3414.

Saturday, Feb. 5 — Fifth annual Kaye Johnson Memorial Vintage Snowmobile Ride, beginning at 9 a.m. at Fireside Restaurant, Hwy. K, Hayward. This is one of the biggest vintage rides in Wisconsin this year. Last year's ride attracted about 170 sleds, according to Bruce. All snowmobiles are welcomed to participate as this fund-raiser ride is not just for vintage sleds. The ride will return to the Fireside around 4 p.m. There will be a meal, prizes, raffles, silent auction and awards in several categories, including Hard Luck, Best Dressed Vintage, and People's Choice. Cost is $12 per sled. Proceeds benefit the American Heart Association. For more information call Bruce at (715) 462-4566.
